What is the Canada eTA?
The Canada Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) is a mandatory entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada. It is electronically linked to your passport and must be obtained before you travel — you cannot apply at the airport.
The Canada eTA is valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. It allows multiple entries into Canada, with each stay limited to six months.

Who needs a Canada eTA?
The Canada eTA is required for nationals of visa-exempt countries who are flying to or transiting through a Canadian airport. This includes travellers from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, most EU countries, and many others.
Note that the eTA is only required for air travel. If you are entering Canada by land or sea, different entry requirements apply.
